Glasgow Rangers icon Ally McCoist has tipped Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard to turn his team’s ailing form around.

The Gers begun the Scottish Premiership season brightly, running out 3-0 winners over Livingston on matchday one.

However, the Ibrox side has since lost three in a row, dropping out of the Champions League in the process.

Rangers lost 2-1 at Malmo in the first leg, fell to a 1-0 defeat at Dundee United, and then suffered another 2-1 loss to Malmo.

Despite being a goal and a man up on Tuesday, a quick fire brace from striker Antonio Colak knocked the Scottish champions out.

Rangers were booed off at Ibrox after losing to the Swedes.

However, McCoist defended Gerrard after a caller on talkSPORT called for the manager to be sacked.

Rangers “will turn it around”

“I think that’s slightly harsh isn’t it?” the Ibrox legend said in response.

“You take your team undefeated in the league, couple of defeats and it’s time to go? No.

“Listen, its been a disappointing start for Rangers of course it has, no doubt about it.

“But you would like to think Steven and the team will turn it around.”

Rangers are in Scottish League Cup second-round action on Friday night, hosting Dunfermline at Ibrox.
