A player believed to be sought after by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been praised by none other than Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
Houssem Aouar has been a star for Ligue 1 side Lyon over the last three years, becoming one of the top young midfielders in Europe during his time with the French outfit.
Despite being just 21, Aouar has clocked up an impressive 133 senior appearances for Lyon, with 24 goals and 24 assists under his belt already.
This season, the France Under-21 ace – valued at $66million (around £53million) by Business Insider – has made 37 appearances for Lyon, scoring nine goals and claiming sevel assists.
According to the Liverpool Echo, is one of a number of high-profile targets for Klopp’s side this summer, along with Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Diego Carlos, Todd Cantwell and even Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho.
Messi has been asked to name 15 “youth on the rise” players for Topps Champions League cards and Aouar made the cut.
“He is always calm with the ball at his feet with an excellent technical quality,” the Argentina ace wrote about the Frenchman, as quoted by Give Me Sport.
Messi is not the first high-profile football figure to praise Aouar – Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola previously told Sky Sports about him: “He is incredible. He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.”
With Adam Lallana set to leave the club in the summer and Gini Wijnaldum’s contract ending in 2021, Aouar would no doubt be an excellent addition for Liverpool, a player who can slot in the team right away, and given his age, also one for the future.
