Former Rangers player Lionel Charbonnier has explained to French news outlet So Foot that he wasn’t convinced when Steven Gerrard was appointed into his Ibrox role.
The former goalkeeper played 18 times for the Light Blues originally signing as an understudy from Auxerre in 1998.
Gerrard took up the Rangers position in 2018 and although he is yet to lift silverware, his team are certainly on the right track.

His team are 11 points clear of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and are almost guaranteed a place in the last 32 of the Europa League.
Charbonnier now works as a pundit in the French media and ahead of tonight’s game with Standard Liege, he claimed Gerrard proved him wrong.
He told So Foot, via the Daily Record: “At first, Steven Gerrard, I was like, ‘Hmm, this could be complicated.’
“And then we gave him time. This is a very cohesive team. He really put his foot down, and he speaks very well.
“The team is consistent but not only that, it’s consistently getting better. He’s the right person, in the right place, at the right time.”
TBR View – Charbonnier won’t be the only one proved wrong over Gerrard
When the Liverpool legend was tasked with taking on the Rangers role, it looked like a massive gamble.
It has to be said though, that despite a lack of silverware, the Gers are now finally getting it right.

They are on course to lift the Scottish Premiership title, whilst they also remain in the Scottish League Cup.
Gerrard has attracted some sound players to the football club and he’s showing signs that he could lead Rangers to glory for many years.
Plenty of pundits will have had their doubts over Gerrard when he was appointed but it’s fair to say he’s proved them all wrong.
