Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski is about to sign a new contract with the Serie A side in order to fend off clubs – amid reported interest from both Everton and Liverpool.
Zielinski, 25, is one of the first names on the Napoli team sheet and continues to be a very dependable member of the side. Hardly ever injured, the 51-time Poland international has played 164 times for Napoli.
He already has more than 300 professional appearances to his name at club and country, so it is no wonder that the Pole is attracting interest from the Premier League. Carlo Ancelotti’s impending move to Everton could be the reason for that.
Milan News 24 reported this week that Everton were keen to bring Zielinski to Goodison Park, with Ancelotti a huge fan. Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp is credited with being a long-term admirer and La Repubblica claims contact has been recently made.
The Daily Express claim Zielinski has a £60million release clause in his contract.
TBR’s view – Zielinski a dependable player, Everton need him more
Liverpool have enormous competition in the middle of the park. James Milner has signed a new deal, while Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, Adam Lallana and more provide cover in central midfield.
Everton, meanwhile, need additions with a lengthy injury list affecting their central midfield options. Idrissa Gueye’s replacement Jean-Philippe Gbamin is injured, as is Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes.
Everton need Zielinski more, but it seems neither club will be signing the Pole.
