Lineker posts honest verdict on Liverpool superstar Salah after Newcastle win

Liverpool edged past Newcastle United to win 3-1 at Anfield on Thursday evening – Mo Salah scoring once again. Gary Lineker was full of praise for the Egyptian, branding him a “wonderfully imaginative” player.

Despite going behind to Eddie Howe’s side and ex-Liverpool man Jonjo Shelvey, Liverpool came good. Shelvey let a 25-yard strike fly into the bottom corner of Alisson’s goal, but it was not the best of the night.

Diogo Jota controversially equalised, scoring despite Isaac Hayden down in the box with a head injury. It was 2-1 moments later, Salah blasting the ball home from 10 yards to score his 22nd goal in 23 games.

What Salah has added to his game this season, is creativity. Prior to this season, he had 47 assists in 203 games – a rate of about one every four games. This time around, he has nine in 23 games – almost one every two matches.

Lineker heaped plaudits on the Egyptian man, who is set to represent his country at the African Cup of Nations. The Match of the Day host underlined his desire to love watching Salah play.

Lineker on Salah: More proof a Liverpool contract must be agreed

Forget trying to negotiate a wage. Forget trying to discuss whether Salah should have a specific clause regarding his goals, or appearances. Liverpool must give Salah and his agents what they want.

Why? Well firstly, Salah is more than deserving of it. But more importantly, if Liverpool choose to cash in on Salah – it will cost them a world-record fee to replace him. It is cheaper to give into Salah’s demands.
