Lille president Gerard Lopez has lifted the lid on why Nicolas Pepe chose to come to Arsenal this summer, speaking to Sky Sports.
Lopez said it boiled down to a choice between Champions League football with Napoli and playing in the Europa League with the Gunners.
He said: “There was two things he was looking for, either one of them. Either, he was going to and play Champions League right away or he was going to be part of something that could play Champions League.
“He wanted to make an impact on the club that he joined. There were two clubs he felt had that – Napoli and Arsenal. He did choose Premier League and Arsenal because that’s where he wants to leave his mark.”

He will be at the forefront of a frontline that will be charged with taking Arsenal back to Europe’s top table and it’s clear that he thought long and hard about his next destination.
