Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic is reportedly a transfer target for French side Lille. As reported by the Scottish Sun, Lille are ready to make a £5 million bid for the Croatian this summer.
The French side look likely to lose the services of their club captain and current centre-back option Adama Soumarao this summer. With that in mind, they are on the hunt for a new defender and Simunovic seemingly fits the bill.
Indeed, that is the opinion of their manager Christophe Galtier.
As quoted by La Voix Du Nord over the weekend, the Lille boss made it clear he was an admirer of the 24-year-old.
“He’s a very good player with a knowledge of European football.”
Celtic have recently signed both Christopher Julien and Hatem Abd Elhamed to help strengthen their centre-back position.
However, with Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic no longer at the club, and work permit issues still lingering for Elhamed, Celtic would still be taking a gamble letting Simunovic go.
The former Croatia under-21 international struggled with injuries at times last season but was an established starter by the end of the campaign. He played the full 90 minutes of both Champions League qualifiers against FK Sarajevo and Celtic losing him would be a big blow.
But it appears Lille are ready to test the waters regarding his availability this summer.
