Likelihood of five recently-linked players moving to Newcastle

Rafa Benitez’s future at the club hangs in the balance. Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley looks like he will be able to keep the mercurial manager, but only if he is willing to open his cheque book.

Newcastle have been linked with plenty of names of late. Here are five recently-linked players rated out of 10 on the likelihood that they could be on their way to the north east sooner rather than later.

David Brooks – AFC Bournemouth

Somewhat of a left-field suggesting, Wales international and Bournemouth wonderkid Brooks has reportedly cropped on Newcastle’s radar – according to the Daily Star.

Brooks, 21, has shone for Bournemouth since joining Sheffield United last summer. But the chances of Newcastle landing him are almost zero. The Mirror has previously claimed that Tottenham are keen. He has a £50million price tag.

Duvan Zapata – Atalanta

Zapata is one of the hottest strikers in European football at the moment. The 27-year-old speed machine has netted 25 goals in all competitions this season, and The Chronicle reckon Newcastle are keen.

But the chances of Newcastle signing the Colombia international are again slim. Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims West Ham United had a £34.7million bid rejected in January.

Dwight McNeil – Burnley

The Daily Star are also the source for Newcastle being linked with Burnley wonderkid McNeil. The 19-year-old ace has burst onto the scene and would be a top signing for the Toon.

But he is not short of admirers. Indeed, the outlet claims Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City are all keeping tabs on the teenager. But he would be a regular at Newcastle, unlike the others and that may put the Toon in pole.

Patrick Erras – Nurnburg

Erras has already told German newspaper Bild that he is yet to make a decision on his future with German Bundesliga side Nurnburg. His contract expires at the end of the 2019-20 season.

Newcastle desperately need a midfielder with Isaac Hayden, Mo Diame and Jonjo Shelvey’s futures at St. James’ Park all in doubt. However, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart are also keen.

Salomon Rondon – West Brom

In the eyes of Newcastle fans, this is the club’s most important potential transfer of the summer. It is widely believed that the on-loan Newcastle talisman has a release clause in his West Brom contract worth £16million.

Not only has his goals and assist proved crucial this season, of which he has scored 10 and created five. It is his ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play. An absolute must buy, and even Ashley would be stupid not too.
