Likelihood of five recently-linked players moving to Celtic, including Newcastle ace

Celtic need to enter the summer window for new recruits with the squad beginning to age, and plenty of players set to leave. Dedryck Boyata and Scott Sinclair are just two names in a sticky contract situation.

Whether or not Neil Lennon is given the permanent role, players are needed in a number of positions. Here are five recently-linked players rated out of 10 on the likelihood they move to Celtic.

Edson Alvarez – Club America

The Sun have claimed Celtic would need to splash out £9million to sign the versatile Mexico international – the same amount they spent to bring Odsonne Edouard to the club last summer.

Able to play at right-back, centre-back and holding midfield, Alvarez would be a top signing. But Fiorentina, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax are also keen and at £9million, it seems unlikely.

Uche Ikpeazu – Hearts

Ikpeazu has earned plenty of plaudits since joining Hearts from Cambridge United last summer. A brute of centre-forward, Ikpeazu has been too hot to handle for some Scottish Premiership defence.

The Sun claim Rangers are also interested in the 24-year-old, and that he would cost £1million. But the question remains, is he really good enough for either Old Firm side? Probably not.

TBR Rating: 4/10.

Graeme Shinnie – Aberdeen

Shinnie is expected to leave Aberdeen this summer with the 27-year-old’s contract set to expire. But whether that is to Celtic is another question, with plenty of interest from down south and from Rangers.

Indeed, the Bristol Post have claimed Celtic, Rangers and Bristol City are keen on the tough-tackling Dons captain. He has also been spotted at Derby County’s training ground. Would only be a squad player at Celtic.

Freddie Woodman – Newcastle United

Woodman has little future at St. James’ Park given that Martin Dubravka is head and shoulders ahead of Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot and himself. An England Under-20 World Cup champion, he has plenty of promise.

The Shields Gazette claim Celtic are interested. Indeed, Dorus de Vries is set to leave while Craig Gordon is hardly getting any younger. But Arsenal are said to be leading the way.

TBR Rating: 7/10.

Scott McKenna – Aberdeen

The powerful centre-back was the subject of bids from Celtic last summer. A powerful centre-back, McKenna has impressed once again this season but his £10m (Record) asking price is likely to have dropped.

Already an enemy of Rangers talisman Alfredo Morelos, McKenna would be perfectly suited to Celtic – and the Scottish champions need a centre-back. If Celtic can meet Aberdeen’s price tag, he is theirs.
