A number of Arsenal fans have been raving about Houssem Aouar’s display for Lyon on Friday night, the reported Gunners target impressing off the bench.

According to ESPN, the 22-year-old remains Mikel Arteta’s top target for the remainder of the transfer window, the Spaniard reportedly eager to build his team around the midfielder.

Indeed, the outlet claims Arsenal remain frontrunners for Aouar’s signature, though player sales would be required for the Gunners to meet his €60million (£55million) price tag.

The Frenchman was named as a substitute for Lyon as they took on Bordeaux away in Ligue 1, the match eventually ending in a goalless draw.

Despite getting just over 30 minutes under his belt on the night, Aouar shone in his cameo as he made his presence felt on the pitch.

He even struck the post late on after weaving through the opposition defence in the box, unfortunate as it would have been a wonderful goal.

Cue plenty of Arsenal fans enjoying what they were seeing and giving their thoughts on social media:

Aouar has been linked with Arsenal for a number of months, the Daily Mail claiming in February that he had “admirers in the red half of north London”.

In mid-June, meanwhile, 90Min wrote an article about the “five clubs he’s most likely to move to”, with the Gunners on the list for the player.

Despite his young age, Aouar has clocked up an impressive 138 senior appearances for Lyon, with 24 goals and 27 assists under his belt already.

He also played a key role in their run to the Champions League quarter-finals this season.
