Everton’s magnificent start to the season under Carlo Ancelotti continues as the Toffees easily reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday.
Goodison Park saw Everton host West Ham and it proved a straightforward day at the office as the Blues ran out 4-1 winners over the beleaguered Londoners.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was once again the main man with a second hat-trick in as many games, with Richarlison also getting on the scoresheet for the hosts.
Though Robert Snodgrass equalised for West Ham early in the second half, it proved a mere consolation in the end as Everton were once again simply unplayable.
And it’s not just the forwards who are firing on all cylinders – the Ancelotti effect has worked its magic all across the team.
Previously-criticised players like Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Michael Keane are looking revitalised and back to their best, earning plaudits along the way.
Keane, in particular, put in an especially great performance against the Hammers, once again a strong, dominating presence at the back.
The £65,000-a-week ace also provided a superb assist for Calvert-Lewin’s opener, beating his marker with a 360 turn and playing a ball over the top for his teammate to control and slot home.
Needless to say, many Everton fans were impressed with Keane and sang his praises on social media:
Gotta say as well, what an improvement from Michael Keane. Looks like a completely different player under Ancelotti.

Hows Michael Keane started spraying passes about lately like a prime iniesta?

It’s easy to run out of superlatives to describe Michael Keane. What a sensational footballer

Imagine someone said 3 months ago “Michael Keane will draw out the West Ham defence by looking like passing back to JP, instead he’ll 180 pirouette Lanzini & ping a 40 yard inch perfect pass to DCL who’ll notch his 6th (soon to be 8) goal of the season whilst James applauds” https://t.co/bM9mdHxgeP

Season’s getting weirder with Michael Keane and James Rodriguez having a playmaking battle for Everton at Goodison. And Keane is winning so far.

Very true but in fairness to Rice there was pressure on the ball, I don’t many would’ve expected Michael Keane to turn into prime Zidane for a split second

So are we not going to talk about Michael Keane channelling his inner Rodriguez, the guy sent Lanzini to the shops with a twirl and then chipped (perfectly) the rest of the pitch for DCL’s first.
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
