Liam Rosenior praises Stuart Dallas despite Leeds defeat in play-offs

Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior hailed Leeds United ace Stuart Dallas for his performance on Wednesday night, but ultimately his side crashed out of the Championship play-offs.

The Whites were beaten 4-2 at Elland Road by Derby County in the second leg, which meant the visitors progressed via a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team have suffered heartache in the play-off semi-finals despite an incredible league season that saw them finish third.

They won the first leg 1-0 away at Derby and doubled their advantage on Wednesday night when Dallas scored from close-range after 24 minutes.

But Derby pulled one back just before half-time in the second leg through substitute Jack Marriott and that’s when the momentum started to shift.

Frank Lampard’s team went in front in the tie thanks to goals from Mason Mount and Harry Wilson after the restart, but left-back Dallas netted a brilliant curling finish to square the match up again.

Marriott chipped in an 85th minute winner for Derby to see them progress and set up a clash with Aston Villa at Wembley in the final.

“Stuart Dallas was absolutely outstanding. From left-back he scores two goals, he was up and down the pitch, he was brilliant,” Rosenior said on Sky Sports’ main event channel (10:05pm, 15 May).

TBR’s View:

There were a number of players that dipped below their usual standards in the second leg to ultimately let the team down, but Dallas was the complete opposite.

Dallas produced a brilliant display from left-back to score on two occasions and he didn’t deserve to end up on the losing side.

The 28-year-old has been such a selfless player at Elland Road this campaign and filled in where needed for Bielsa.

He has played on both flanks as a winger and also in both full-back positions during the course of the campaign, but saved his best performance for the last game.
