Liam Cooper ‘surprised’ at physical shape of his Leeds United team-mates upon training return

The Leeds United captain is impressed by how his team-mates have kept in shape.

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has admitted his surprise at the condition of some of his Elland Road team-mates upon their recent return to training.

The Whites have recently started to get back into training after the recent global health crisis enforced UK lockdown.

Leeds United are now hoping to restart the season, continue their fine recent form, and earn that long-elusive promotion to the Premier League.

You might expect the players to have returned a little short of sharpness or needing a couple of days to get back up to speed.

However, the Scotland international has been speaking to the Leeds United website about the return to action and admits he has been taken aback by some of his team-mates supreme physical condition.

“We’ve had that time, trained hard and in these times, it is all you can do.  Your professional side comes out, we are athletes and there was always going to be a time where we had to be ready to resume.

“All of the lads have stuck to it, the lads are in such good shape and the lads are flying.  I’ve been surprised at the sharpness of the sessions and fitness levels of the lads and that proves to me that everybody has listened.

“Everybody is thinking like me and has the same dreams as me.  We want to get this club to the Premier League.”

It should be no surprise that Leeds’ players have returned to action in good condition.

Marcelo Bielsa and his coaching staff have got many of the Leeds players into the best condition of their careers and the results have been clear for all to see.

With the added potential bonus of promotion to the Premier League, it is no surprise the Leeds players have taken their fitness plans seriously during the lockdown and have returned ready to push for their place back in the top-flight.
