Liam Cooper sends five-word question to Rangers star after award

Kemar Roofe was handed the goal of the season award on Monday for his unbelievable effort against Standard Liege in Belgium during the Europa League group stages – and Scotland defender Liam Cooper has sent the Rangers star a five-word message.

Roofe, 28, has been excellent for Steven Gerrard’s side in his first season since joining the club from Anderlecht. Despite injuries at the start of the season, Roofe has gone on to score an impressive 18 goals in 36 league and cup Rangers appearances.

An excellent record that even sees him sit above Alfredo Morelos in the goalscoring charts at Rangers, though behind captain James Tavernier – despite Roofe nabbing four goals in his last three league games. But he was among the awards on Monday.

The ex-Leeds striker won the award for best goal, which saw him come off the bench and after beating a couple of Liege players in his own half – he lashed a brilliant strike from more than 50 yards past the goalkeeper. He posted on Instagram.

Scotland defender and Leeds captain Cooper, who played alongside Roofe for three years at Elland Road between 2016 and 2019, reacted to Roofe’s post – applauding the ex-West Brom and Oxford United ace. He asked, “never in doubt was it?”
