Liam Cooper sends comical Instagram message after Leeds win at Southampton
Leeds United captain Liam Cooper delivered a hilarious Instagram message after the 2-0 away win over Southampton on Tuesday night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side ensured they would finish the season in the top half of the Premier League table with an impressive victory yesterday at St Mary’s.
After standing firm against plenty of Southampton pressure in the first half, Leeds showed their class in the second period to take three points in the league meeting.
Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts were the goalscorers late on in the penultimate fixture of the season.
Leeds defender Cooper, who was back in the starting XI, sent a humorous message to teammate Luke Ayling after the game where he asked him if he’d seen his calves.
It sounds like 29-year-old centre-back Cooper felt the pace of being back in the Leeds starting line-up after his recent injury absence, which is no surprise given the intensity they play at.
Cooper’s situation at Leeds is certainly one of the most interesting stories to follow going into next year.
Of course, the captain is a well-respected leader in the dressing room, and his role in promotion during the previous campaign will never be overlooked.
The left-footed centre-back has shown up well at times this season in the top flight, but his starting position shouldn’t be fixed anymore.
Cooper should be made to fight to get in ahead of teammates Diego Llorente, Pascal Struijk and Robin Koch.
