Liam Cooper makes prediction about injury-prone Leeds star Adam Forshaw

Liam Cooper has claimed in a Q&A session on Leeds United’s Instagram page that he reckons Adam Forshaw’s determination and hard work will see the midfielder return from a long-term hip injury ahead of schedule.

Forshaw, 28, has been limited to just eight appearances in all competitions for Leeds this season due to a long-term hip problem. Initially believed to be a slight issue, the injury has become a long-winded problem.

The former Middlesbrough and Brentford ace has since been to the Steadman Clinic in Colorado, undergoing surgery to correct the long-standing issue. He has already been ruled out for the season, with a target of being fit for next season.

Leeds skipper Cooper was asked who the hardest-working teammate was, and the former Chesterfield defender responded by naming £4.5million (Mail) signing Forshaw – and reckons the midfielder will return from injury ahead of schedule.

“Probably Forsh,” Cooper said. “He’s always first in the gym. Forsh is probably the one who really cracks on with the programmes, and does more. Me and him are probably first in every day. He does everything properly.

“He’s a great example to the young lads. He’ll definitely get back ahead of schedule. That’s the mantra that he has and I’m sure we will all see him very soon.”

TBR’s view – Does Forshaw have a long-term future at Elland Road?

Once on the verge of an England call-up under Gareth Southgate, Forshaw has two years remaining on his Elland Road contract. But with promotion comes new signings, and his injury has already seen him fall down the pecking order.

Marcelo Bielsa is renowned for his strong loyalty with Leeds players and that plays into Forshaw’s favour, as does his excellent work rate – made apparent by Cooper. This summer is an important one for Forshaw, even if does not leave.
