Liam Burt has posted on Instagram after he left Celtic to join Irish side Bohemians earlier this week, ending a spell of 18 months with the Parkhead club having joined from Rangers in the summer of 2019.
Burt, 22, joined Rangers in 2010 from Celtic’s youth academy and came up through academy at Rangers – eventually breaking into first-team training and making his debut. He played three times for Rangers, but never made an impact.
He left Rangers to return to Celtic in 2019 – nine years after leaving even before he had become a teenager. However, the move failed to work out for the five-time Scotland Under-21 international. He posted a message to Celtic fans on Instagram.
The versatile attacking midfielder failed to play at senior level for Celtic, and did not even make the bench once in his 18 months under Neil Lennon. He did play twice in Celtic’s Challenge Cup campaign last season.
Now, he moves to Ireland and with Bohemians. Unlike a normal season, Ireland play their Premier League like the MLS or the Chinese Super League – in that it starts in January and ends towards the end of the year. The start date has been pushed back.
It is expected to start in March, as Bohemians look to go one better than their second-placed finish last season. Burt posted his delight on Instagram to be joining Bohemians – and the likes of Billy Gilmour and Calvin Miller responded.
