Pep Guardiola would have been relieved after Manchester City came from a goal down to beat Leyton Orient 2-1 in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

The Manchester City boss would have been worried after Stefan Ortega’s initial own but Abdukodir Khusanov and Kevin De Bruyne managed to keep their side’s hopes alive of winning the oldest competition in the history of the game with two important goals.

Pep Guardiola made eight changes to the side that lost 5-1 to Arsenal and while things looked shaky after Jamie Donley’s remarkable long-range effort ricocheted off Ortega into the back of the net, City upped the ante in the second half and deservedly left Brisbane Road with a much-needed victory.

For Guardiola, the win would have been especially crucial as his Sky Blues side are in desperate need of a confidence boost as they host Real Madrid in the Champions League’s knockout phase playoffs.

Based on form, Manchester City’s chances of beating Los Blancos seem remote in any case and a defeat to a League One outfit like Leyton Orient would have further dented their chances of upsetting Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens praises Man City boss Pep Guardiola after post-match chat

Orient would have been disappointed not to have pulled off what could have gone down as one of the biggest upsets the FA Cup has ever witnessed.

But on the other hand, they have every right to be hugely proud of their performance against Manchester City.

In the aftermath of the contest, Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens’ spirits were still seemingly high as he lauded Pep Guardiola for the post-match conversation he had with him.

Wells said via BeanymanSports2: “I have to say, the way he is, we’ve just had 10 minutes, what an unbelievable guy! I half didn’t want him to go home! Just stay for a bit longer!”

“The way he talks, I complimented his tan, he’s been to Abu Dhabi for a few days so he looks really well! What a man to speak to, he speaks with passion, not just coming for a drink and, ‘What time’s the bus leaving?’ He speaks in detail tactically, about his experiences, what an unbelievable guy.”

Pep Guardiola reacts to Leyton Orient fans chanting, “You’re getting sacked in the morning”

While Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the atmosphere the home fans generated, the six-time Premier League winner jokingly stated that he did not hearing them chanting, “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

Guardiola said via BeanymanSports: “Fantastic [atmosphere].”

“Well, when they say, you’re going to get sacked in the morning, not much but it’s a routine in all the stadiums right now but still, we got the result, I think my chairman is not going to sack me tomorrow for sure.”

“But I would say that was really good, it’s not the first time I would say, I don’t know in League One in every single game, the vibe is like this, I don’t know but it’s really good.”

Pep Guardiola is clearly accustomed to English football and embraces the culture surrounding is but now, his sights will be firmly set on Manchester City’s much-awaited clash against Real Madrid.
