Former Arsenal defender and now regular pundit, Martin Keown, believes Brazilian midfielder Willian needs to show more of what he did last time out.
Willian played well as Arsenal saw off Leicester City last weekend. It was arguably his finest performance in a Gunners shirt since completing a free transfer to the club in the summer.
But despite being impressed by Willian, Keown told Talksport he wants to see it again, starting with the tricky trip to Burnley this weekend.
“He zips, he’s quick, it’s change of pace, let’s see it. I saw it the other day a bit,” Keown said.
“I thought for the first time I saw it at the weekend. But I want to see it again at Burnley. Can he do it against Burnley, then it’s early, it’s cold, it’s like ‘let’s see what you do against Burnley'”.
Mikel Arteta is likely to go with Willian again given his display last week and his experience. Burnley is a tough place to go, and Arteta will know he needs some experience in the ranks to win out.
For Willian, he needs to keep doing what he did. He has been a big disappointment since moving from Chelsea but last weekend could be a turning point. He is, afterall, a proven winner and player in the Premier League.
TBR View: A good Willian can only benefit Arsenal
There is no questioning how good Willian is on his day. You don’t have the success he enjoyed with Chelsea without being a quality player.
However, Arsenal need more of it and they need it consistently. His big wages mean he’s already under the microscope from fans and that naturally brings an element of pressure,
Leicester could well prove a big moment for Willian and Arsenal will only benefit from it if the Brazilian does hit top form.
