‘Let’s see’… Journalist refuses to rule out Arsenal signing ‘the best player in the world’

As strange as it sounds, Kylian Mbappe has always felt like a bit of an Arsenal player in the making.

Maybe it’s the Thierry Henry comparisons or maybe it’s the fact that Arsene Wenger looked at him before any of us even knew who Mbappe was, but there is this underlying link between Mbappe and Arsenal that has always been bubbling away.

The Frenchman’s PSG contract is, of course, up at the end of the season, and with Mbappe potentially looking for a new club in the near future, Arsenal have been linked.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Jonathan Johnson has been discussing Mbappe’s future, and he says that he refuses to rule out the idea of the attacker ending up at the Emirates.

Mbappe could end up at Arsenal

Johnson shared his verdict on ‘the best player in the world’.

“I think the interest from Liverpool, however, has been more long-standing and more serious, but at the same time Liverpool are also going through something of a transitional phase, so neither club look an obvious destination for Mbappe at this moment in time – only Real Madrid really fit the bill in that respect,” Johnson said.

“I wouldn’t completely rule Arsenal out, and the same goes for Liverpool, but I think those teams would be a distant second to Real Madrid, and it’s also not the case at this moment in time that he’s definitely decided he’s done and dusted with PSG either.

“A lot can change in the coming weeks and months, but I think the next key step is to see how Real Madrid approach this deal. Let’s see how they make their next charm-offensive, and what that could mean in terms of Arsenal or Liverpool becoming more serious destinations for Mbappe.”

Imagine

The conversations around Arsenal would change overnight if they signed Mbappe.

Arsenal have, for a long time, been seen on the periphery of Europe’s elite. A nearly club that has flirted with major success rather than one of the elites.

However, if they managed to land Mbappe, Arsenal would be very much in that conversation as one of the best and biggest teams on the planet, and major success would surely follow.

Of course, Mbappe ending up at Arsenal may be unrealistic, but if it does happen, this would undoubtedly be the biggest signing the Gunners have ever made.
