Les Ferdinand makes big claim about Tottenham target Eberechi Eze

Les Ferdinand has told The Beautiful Game Podcast that Eberechi Eze is one of the best players he has seen – in comments that will likely delight plenty of Tottenham Hotspur fans.

Spurs are the reported favourites to sign Eze this summer. The Sun on Sunday (15/3; page 60) reported at the weekend that Jose Mourinho’s men lead the race for the £20 million-rated sensation.

Eze has scored 12 goals and provided eight assists for the Championship side this season.

And the club’s director of football – who, of course, also made nearly 150 appearances during his spell with Spurs – has made a big claim about the attacker’s ability.

“If you look at his footballing ability I could put him down as one of the best I have seen in terms of what I have been fortunate to play with in my career,” he told The Beautiful Game Podcast.

“When I see some of the things he does on a football and how comfortable he is on a football, I put him up there as one of the best I have seen.

“Whether he fulfils his potential to be one of the best I have worked with time will tell but in terms of his ability with the ball certainly he is one of the best I have seen.”

TBR View – Huge statement from Ferdinand

Given the playing career Ferdinand enjoyed, it is a huge statement. The 53-year-old spent the large majority of his career playing at the highest level.

But there is surely no question that Eze is one of the most remarkable talents in any division. It looks inevitable that he will be playing at English football’s top table in the near future.

And Tottenham will be hoping that they are the ones to land his signature.

Spending £20 million would arguably be an inspired piece of business from Spurs this summer. And it would be no surprise if they were made to rue missing out on Eze should he head elsewhere in the coming months.
