'Magnificent': BBC pundit says one Everton player was simply 'fantastic' against Chelsea today
Everton put in a performance for the ages at Goodison Park as they took the game to Chelsea to breathe new life into their fight against relegation.
Richarlison’s goal early in the second half sent the home supporters into raptures as the Toffees won out in what was simply a must-win game, following Burnley’s win yesterday.
Frank Lampard will be delighted with what his team showed him throughout. The Everton players displayed character, heart, and a willingness to win that should serve them well in the coming weeks. And one player who epitomised the Toffees performance today was star striker, Richarlison.
The Brazilian got the winning goal before leaving with what looked like a knock before the end. And speaking on BBC Five Live, former Everton midfielder Leon Osman was full of praise for Richarlison.
“People don’t always like Richarlison. There are mixed reviews on his attitude, but he’d been fantastic today. He’s led this Everton line, harried, won a free kick, scored the opening goal. He’s been magnificent,” Osman said for the BBC.
Richarlison is now just one shy of hitting double figures for the season. Which, given how bad things have gone, isn’t too bad a return for the former Watford man.
TBR’s View: Richarlison Turning Up When Everton Need Him
Talk about coming to the party at the right moment. Richarlison was brilliant today and did everything that Everton fans want and know he can deliver.
Of course, Jordan Pickford was fantastic in goal as well. But Richarlison’s pressure on the Chelsea back four and the way he took his goal summed him up.
If Everton go down, they will lose Richarlison. The takers will be lining up to snap him up and if anything, that should be more inspiration for the Toffees to do the business.
