‘Outstanding’: Leon Osman lauds Everton player for being a big character against Liverpool today

Everton drew with Liverpool today in a pulsating Merseyside derby which culminated in both sides nearly stealing all three points in the end.

Both the Reds and the Toffees had chances to win the game and in the end, both Alisson and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford enjoyed fine afternoons in goal. Pickford, in particular, enjoyed a fine day in front of his home fans as he showed just why he is England’s number one as we head towards Qatar.

And watching on for Premier League productions, former Everton midfielder Leon Osman admitted that the Toffees needed performances from ‘big characters’ like Pickford.

“Liverpool had some big moments today. Yet Everton stuck it out and it needs big characters to stand up. It needs defenders to make big tackles and it needs goalkeepers, like Pickford, to make saves. That one at the end from Salah with his finger tips, was an outstanding save,” Osman said.

Pickford delivered a performance for the ages really as Liverpool put Everton under pressure in the opening 20 minutes of the first half. However, it was actually Everton who could have won it, with Conor Coady seeing a goal disallowed for offside.

If ever there was any doubt that Jordan Pickford is a quality and international level goalkeeper, then today proved it once and for all.

Pickford was outstanding and along with Alisson for Liverpool, it was a display from two goalkeepers at the top of their games.

0-0 was probably a fair reflection of the game as a whole and Pickford can hold his head high for what was a fine performance in front of the Goodison Park faithful.
