Leon Osman is delighted that Everton’s Tom Davies has committed his future at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have confirmed (official website) that the 20-year-old has penned a new four-year deal with them to stay until 2023.
He’s an all-action midfielder that is relentless in the middle of the park and provides a strong alternative to the likes of Idrissa Gueye or Morgan Schneiderlin.
Ex-Everton midfielder Osman feels that Davies is an important senior member and that it’s another sign of how strong the academy is.
”Brilliant to see homegrown lads cutting it at the top level to be part of Everton’s future plan at an exciting time. Huge credit to Everton’s academy, again,” Osman wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Everton have shown great faith in Davies by handing him a new long-term deal and it’s once again another sign of the club’s impressive youth system.
The English central midfielder is not quite the finished article yet, but shows real flashes of brilliance and looks composed for a 20-year-old.
He’s captained the Merseyside club at first-team level already and it makes sense to keep him happy.
There is competition in Marco Silva’s squad, but he should be delighted to see he’s in the plans and just needs to make a few improvements to become a regular.
Davies has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season and should be looking to build next year.
