Leon Osman has been quoted by BBC Live’s online coverage of Everton’s 4-1 win over West Ham United that injuries to Allan and Richarlison will come as a huge blow to the in-form Toffees – but reckons Fabian Delph will come in.
Everton cruised to a sixth win of the season on Wednesday night as they comfortably dispatched of a much-changed West Ham side to win 4-1. Dom Calvert-Lewin took his tally to a stunning eight goals, with another hat-trick.
Richarlison also scored while Robert Snodgrass did equalise for West Ham early in the second half – only for the Toffees to take full advantage. But Everton’s night was not all positives, as Brazilian duo Richarlison and 29-year-old Allan picked up injuries.
Allan was frustrated after seemingly suffering a muscle injury, being replaced in the 70th minute – 10 minutes after Richarlison was replaced due to a problem with his ankle. Osman underlined the importance of both, and expects Delph to replace Allan.
“Considering how Everton have started, you want to get through games without injuries – and certainly not your most crucial players,” Osman said. “Allan has been terrific since he came in. I think Fabian Delph could cover the role of Allan.
“But Richarlison will be a huge miss. He is a huge part of what Everton do. He has pace, guile and ability and he’ll be a big miss for Carlo Ancelotti for however long he is missing for. Only time will tell the significance of those injuries.”
TBR’s view – Do Everton need a better replacement for Allan?
Delph has struggled at Everton since his £8million (MEN) move to Goodison Park from Manchester City last summer. Numerous injuries and a lack of momentum saw Delph manage just 20 appearances throughout 2019-20.
But the England international has since shown decent form in the Carabao Cup, starring against the Hammers. He has slowly started to regain form and it might just be enough to convince Carlo Ancelotti to let the former Leeds man cover Allan.
