Leon Balogun reacts to Rangers draw on Instagram; Arsenal man replies
Rangers defender Leon Balogun has received some praise on Instagram from one opponent following the Gers’ latest pre-season friendly at Ibrox on Saturday.
Steven Gerrard’s side drew 2-2 with Arsenal this weekend. And it was Balogun who broke the deadlock for the Light Blues.
The Nigeria international produced a superb header from James Tavernier’s corner to put the Scottish Premiership champions in front.
Ultimately, Rangers were not quite able to claim what would have been a major scalp ahead of the new season.
But there were a lot of positives on show. And Balogun was one of those who did well in the draw.
It certainly appears that he managed to impress his namesake playing for the opposition.
Balogun took to Instagram to express his delight at the result, the goal and playing in front of fans at Ibrox again…
And amongst those to reply was Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun. The striker – whose parents were born in Nigeria – praised the Gers star in a light-hearted reply.
Big seasons ahead for Rangers star Leon Balogun and Arsenal namesake
Of course, Rangers will soon turn their attention to their Champions League qualifier.
So it could be a massive season for Balogun, who is yet to feature in the competition.
Meanwhile, it could also be a breakout year for his namesake at the Emirates.
Arsenal did not see the best of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Eddie Nketiah last year.
So if Balogun can keep himself in the manager’s thoughts, there is no reason why he cannot play an important role in the near future.
