Leicester star delivers Anfield verdict on Instagram, Liverpool ace responds
James Maddison has branded the Anfield atmosphere as the best in the country, after Leicester lost on penalties to Liverpool. Maddison made the claim on Instagram, prompting praise from Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Jamie Vardy was in electric form in the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash, opening the scoring with a brilliant finish across Caomihin Kelleher – before tapping home a second soon after good work from Patson Daka.
But Liverpool were not done. Roberto Firmino held up a cross well, teeing up Oxlade-Chamberlain to crash home a good effort from 18 yards. It wasn’t the best goal of the night. No, Maddison can lay claim to that.
Lining up an effort from 25 yards, his barnstorming effort flew past Ireland international Kelleher to make it 3-1. The tumultuous tie took another turn when Diogo Jota got his 12th of the season. 3-2.
Then, Takumi Minamino scored a late equaliser – sending the crowd into raptures and the game into penalties. Kelleher saved penalties from Luke Thomas and Ryan Bertrand – and the Reds went through. Maddison reacted on Instagram.
Maddison on Anfield: What has Liverpool ace Oxlade-Chamberlain said?
The £60million-rated playmaker (Mirror) is in stunning form at the moment. In the Premier League, he has three goals and three assists in his last four league games. His effort against Liverpool continues that run.
Certainly, his performance will have caught the attention of a few watchful fans at Anfield – as may his comment about Liverpool’s famous ground. Oxlade-Chamberlain was even full of praise, applauding his goal during the 3-3 draw.
