Leicester star Christian Fuchs defends under-fire Leeds star Luke Ayling

Christian Fuchs has defended Leeds United star Luke Ayling after the Whites star has come in for criticism for diving during Monday night’s 4-1 defeat to Leicester City – with Fuchs stating Ayling admitted he made a mistake straight away.

Leeds were completely outclassed on Monday as Leicester’s counter-attacking proved too much for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Youri Tielemans netted an excellent brace, while Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes also got their names on the score sheet.

Stuart Dallas scored for Leeds in the second half, and Ayling looked to con referee Andre Marriner by hitting the deck under the challenge of Fuchs. Replays showed that the ex-Arsenal academy product had gone down without any contact.

Ayling was not shown a yellow card but a penalty was not given. Since then, Ayling has come in for criticism – who was labelled as “embarrassing” by Darren Bent on TalkSPORT this week. But Fuchs has defended Ayling on Twitter.

TBR’s view – Even Leeds fans think Ayling should be banned

Ayling has been one of Leeds best performers under Marcelo Bielsa and continues to remain one of the first names on the team sheet. But his dive, as Bent says, was embarrassing. If retrospective action was more common, he would be banned.

Leeds fans are a loyal bunch and will defend their players to the hilt. But even some on social media have criticised their defender for going down in the penalty area without contact. It is far worse than Mo Salah and Harry Kane’s weekend incidents.

Leeds can count themselves highly lucky to have £750,000 (Mail) signing Ayling available for Friday’s game against Crystal Palace.
