Leicester now reportedly ahead of Arsenal in Dennis Praet chase as he misses training match

Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet is moving closer to leaving the Serie A club after being left out of a training match yesterday, according to SampNews24.

They report that the Belgian is all but out the door after being spared from the game in case he got an injury which derailed his exit.

Gazzetta Dello Sport reported in June that Arsenal had bid for the midfielder, along with then team-mate Joachim Andersen, but the latest report says it’s now a straight fight between Leicester and AC Milan.

And Milan reportedly need to shift some players out to free up the funds to sign him, so a move to the Foxes – who have apparently offered to double his salary – is the likeliest.

It looks as if the Gunners put Praet on the back burner in order to land Dani Ceballos on loan, after seeing their bids knocked back.

But Praet was among Unai Emery’s early targets this summer and seeing him move to the Premier League may be galling if he proves to be a success at Leicester.

From the Foxes’ perspective, they look to be edging closer to another hugely impressive swoop, and the fact they are willing to spend big on Praet’s wages is yet another sign of their ambition.
