Leicester are set to make Ahmed Musa their fourth summer signing and the forward is in England to undergo a medical before completing the move. This is according to Nigerian media, who have been close to the deal from the beginning and is being reported in the Leicester Mercury.
He is expected to sign in the coming days and could join in time to travel with the squad to their Austrian training camp. The club are trying to get their business done early and Musa will become their most expensive player ever at around £16.6 million. This is more than the fee paid for Nampalys Mendy, which previously broke their transfer record earlier in the week.
Musa will fit in well at Leicester as he is a hard-working player with tactical flexibility, which will be useful to Claudio Ranieri. He can play on either flank, behind the striker or as a number nine, and it will be interesting to see where he is deployed by The Foxes. The Nigerian is pacy, a good dribbler and has an eye for goal. He also has experience in the
Champions League, which will be vital as Leicester don’t have many players who have played in the competition before. His main weakness is that he is often caught off-side, but that is likely to happen as he regularly looks to run in behind, using his pace as a weapon.
Another move that is building momentum is the link with promising Brazilian forward Luan, and according to the Mirror, the champions have been in talks with Gremio about a transfer. The report states that money could be an issue, with the Brazilians wanting around £35 million for a player expected to achieve great things during his career.
A move may have to wait until after the Olympics, and Leicester fans may want to keep a close eye on the competition to watch their transfer target.
He is similar to Musa, which makes me doubt this move, as he can play on either flank and as a striker. The club have been trying to add depth all summer to try and deal with the added games that the Champions League brings. They have added Musa to provide competition for the attacking places and as a result a move for Luan may be put on the back burner, with other positions a priority.
It is easy to see why Luan is being targeted by the champions though, as he is quick, dynamic and very skilful. He is also excellent on the ball, with great vision and can execute passes that few other players are capable of.
Finally, N’Golo Kanté continues to be linked with a move away from the club, with Goal reporting that he has been offered to Juventus. This move makes a lot of sense as the Italians are going to be missing Claudio Marchisio through injury at the start of the season and Paul Pogba could be leaving the club as well.
The Turin outfit want to determine the size of Kante’s buy-out clause before they submit an offer, but the Frenchman is withholding that information as he wants Leicester to get the largest fee possible for his services. Juventus had tried to sign Javier Mascherano earlier in the summer. However, that particular advance was rebuffed by Barcelona, and Kanté could be a good alternative.
There are other clubs interested in the Frenchman, with Real Madrid having had talks with the midfielder’s agent, while Chelsea are also believed to be in the hunt. He is one of the most in-demand players in the world, which is hardly surprising after the excellent first season he had in the Premier League. His high intensity and aggressive style of play allow him to retrieve possession almost at will.
He will be an asset to any side in the world, and it will be interesting to see what move he makes this summer, as he is almost certainly leaving Leicester.
