Manchester United are ready for a transfer tussle with Leicester City this summer over the signing of Youri Tielemans, according to HLN, via the Leicester Mercury.
They report that United have added the Belgian to their summer wishlist after an impressive start to his loan spell at the King Power Stadium, where he has picked up a goal and four assists in just seven games.
United require fresh blood and more variety in midfield and are capable of affording the £40m the report claims Monaco could demand to buy Tielemans in the summer.
The report also says that Brendan Rodgers has held talks over extending Tielemans’ stay in the east Midlands – and that United are not in any rush to land him – but it may be a wise move to get any swoop sealed sooner rather than later if the reinvigorated Old Trafford club are sniffing around.
Leicester hold the cards as it stands; Tielemans is currently their player, seems settled at the club and they know they can offer him more gametime than United can.
But the lure of European football – and United will hope that it is Champions League football – and the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is tough to resist at times.
So Leicester would be wise to swoop before United’s flirtations turn into genuine advances and seal the signing of a hugely exciting young player.
