Leicester fans react to being denied a penalty in first half of EFL Cup semi-final

Some Foxes fans felt Marvelous Nakamba should have given away a spot-kick for handball.

Aston Villa will line up in the final of this season’s EFL Cup against one of the Manchester clubs after a late 2-1 second leg semi-final victory over Leicester last night.

The tie was level at 1-1 going into the match at Villa Park last night and goals from Matt Targett and Kelechi Iheanacho meant penalties loomed.

But Trezeguet’s back post finish in stoppage time sent Villa Park wild and knocked Brendan Rodgers’ side out of the first domestic cup of the season.

Some Leicester fans on Twitter felt that the scoreline could have had a different complexion before that, if Mike Dean had awarded them a first half penalty.

The score was 1-0 to Villa on 35 minutes when James Maddison’s shot was blocked by Marvelous Nakamba’s arm and many Foxes online couldn’t believe it wasn’t given as a spot-kick.

VAR was in action and Dean was right on the scene but nothing was doing at a moment which could have changed the game, provided Leicester could have scored the spot kick.

That decision frustrated Leicester fans on Twitter who will not be seeing their side walk out at Wembley as the criticism of VAR continues.
