Jason Cundy has told TalkSPORT in the past 24 hours that Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a player like Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira, as the Portuguese defender continues to shine for the Foxes – and Leicester fans have reacted on Twitter.
Pereira, 26, has clocked up 50 appearances in all competition for Leicester following his £22million (Leicestershire Mercury) to the King Power in the summer of 2018. He has quickly developed a reputation of being one of the best right-backs in England.
Indeed, the five-time Portugal international has started and finished every single one of Leicester’s 12 league games this season, which sees Brendan Rodgers’ side sit in second place with 26 points – eight behind leaders Liverpool.
The Independent claimed a year before Leicester signed Pereira that Mauricio Pochettino was trying to lure the right-back to Spurs from FC Porto, but that his release clause had put Spurs off. Cundy says Spurs need Pereira.
“Pereira is one of certainly the best right-backs in the country, I think Leicester are incredibly fortunate to have him,” Cundy said. “Spurs, their right-back is nowhere near as good. That’s the sort of player that Spurs should be having at right-back.”
Spurs currently boast Serge Aurier as their first-choice right-back, following the sale of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in the summer. But Aurier has been poor, making numerous mistakes – including a red card against Southampton.
Kyle Walker-Peters is yet to be trusted while Juan Foyth and Moussa Sissoko have also been used on the right side of the defence. Leicester fans, though, are fuming that Cundy is suggesting Spurs should go after their defender.

I wish these pundits would stop trying to get our players to move to other clubs. Why would any of them move. They're all playing first team football and in a great atmosphere at the club. We are going places and building for bigger and better things we're nt lil Leicester anymor

Why should he be at Spurs? #LCFC are more successful in recent times, have more money, brand new facilities, arguably better players overall, pay better wages, and generally on the up. What are you talking about @jasoncundy05
