Leicester City pushed Manchester City all the way last night on a night when the reigning champions showed the strain of the title race but got over the line once more.

Vincent Kompany’s long-range strike was the kind of iconic moment the Foxes could not legislate for, but given that was the difference between the two sides, Brendan Rodgers can take plenty of satisfaction.

His side stroked the ball around confidently, which frustrated the hosts for much of the evening, as well as creating the odd opportunity to get on the break.

Kelechi Iheanacho had the best chance late on, which would have had the red half of Merseyside on the edge of their seats, but from a Leicester perspective, there was plenty to be proud about.

And it was another classy midfield from Youri Tielemans among esteemed company in the engine room, keeping City’s midfield quieter than usual and showing good discipline to stick to the task at hand.

The Belgian international celebrates his birthday today and Leicester fans took the opportunity to urge their club to sign the impressive loanee on a permanent basis…
