Leicester City should target assist machine playmaker Ruud Vormer
Leicester City are coming off the back of a decent season under the management of Claude Puel. After flirting with relegation at times last season and at the start of the new campaign the board sacked Craig Shakespeare and replaced him with Claude Puel. Now whilst not everyone’s cup of tea, the Frenchman has done a great job with Leicester. The Foxes finished the season ninth in the table and will now look to strengthen over the summer and push further up the league table next term.
So who could they bring in?
Whilst names are beginning to swirl, there is one player who Leicester should take the lead in pursuing – as he would be perfect for the club.
The player in question is Dutch midfielder Ruud Vormer, who has just had an incredible season with Club Brugge in Belgium.
The playmaker has just captained the side to the Belgian title and did so in some style. His performances earned him the player of the year award in Belgium. The stats tell the story. In 49 appearances this season he scored 14 goals, itself impressive for a central midfielder. But it is his incredible assist tally that is most eye-catching. He has recorded 24 assists this season, an incredible achievement from the 30-year-old.
Vormer’s excellent renaissance in form has not gone unnoticed. He is now in the Dutch national picture again under the guidance of Ronald Koeman, who once failed to give him a chance at Feyenoord.
Leicester City are well equipped in many areas of the park. But if Riyad Mahrez leaves they will need a new spark and creator from the midfield, even if Vormer would do so from a central area.
He could be perfect for Jamie Vardy, who loves playing on the last man. With his excellent range of passing the assist machine could be the provider that Vardy deserves at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester City would be bringing in a potential Premier League star if they signed Vormer, so should definitely give it some thought this summer.
