Leicester City sign defender Mitchell Clark following his release by Aston Villa

Leicester City have confirmed the signing of free agent defender Mitchell Clark on their official website.

Clark was released by Aston Villa at the start of the summer but has managed to remain in both the Premier League and the Midlands by signing for the Foxes on a three-year deal.

He was out on loan at Port Vale last season, but failed to impress Villa boss Dean Smith enough to keep him on and now Leicester have moved to snap up the man who can play all across the backline.

Leicester have an exciting group of young players and Clark now joins their ranks, even if he may be a little raw and inexperienced to make it in the Premier League right away.

Last time Leicester picked up a player who Villa didn’t want on a free transfer, it was Marc Albrighton and he didn’t do too badly at the King Power Stadium, collecting a Premier League winner’s medal.

It’s a little early to say that Clark will have that level of success under Brendan Rodgers but the talent is obviously there for a Premier League club to snap him up so soon after leaving Villa Park.

It remains to be seen whether Villa live to regret letting him go – they have done some strong defensive business of their own this summer – but there’s a chance because he’s that talented.
