Leicester City reportedly still keen on Alfredo Morelos with January swoop touted

Steven Gerrard could face a real battle keeping Rangers star Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

This summer saw former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers being linked with a move for Rangers’ star striker Alfredo Morelos. According to recent reports, it appears that interest has not yet subsided.

As reported by Sky Sports in March, Leicester had Rangers’ Colombian hitman on their radar for the summer transfer window. Morelos went on to be linked with several big clubs in potential big-money exits away from Ibrox. The same report suggested Rangers valued Morelos at a figure in the region of the £19.7 million Rodgers sold ex-Celtic striker Moussa Dembele to Lyon for.

However, he stuck with Steven Gerrard’s side and has been on fire this season, scoring 22 goals in 26 games, including some impressive form in the Europa League.

It seems that Leicester have not forgotten. According to Bleacher Report, a ‘well-placed source’ has suggested the Rangers hitman remains ‘on their radar’. Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to be loaned out by the Foxes and Morelos would, therefore, be brought in to add firepower in reserve to Jamie Vardy.

TBR’s View

Rangers fans will be desperate for Morelos to remain in Glasgow for as long as possible. The Ibrox faithful are not naive and will be aware that eventually, Morelos will be on his way to a bigger league for a handsome fee.

However, they will be desperate for Morelos to remain until the end of the season and help Gerrard’s side finally claw back the Scottish Premiership title from Rodgers’ former club.

So an exit in the winter just does not seem likely for Rangers’ goal-machine. However, if Leicester come calling in the summertime then Morelos will be hard to keep in Glasgow.
