Leicester City have identified Brighton and Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk as the man to replace Harry Maguire, according to Team Talk.
The England defender has been cleared to join either Manchester United or Manchester City this summer, according to the report, with the Foxes turning their attention towards a replacement.
Dunk came through the academy ranks at Brighton and has played 270 times for the Seagulls. It would cost Leicester in the region of £40 million to prise him away from the AMEX Stadium, as per the report.
If Dunk does sign for the Foxes it would smash their previous transfer record. In 2016 they parted with £28 million for Islam Slimani who proved to be a massive flop at the King Power Stadium.
The 27-year-old may relish the chance of a new challenge; whilst Brighton boss Graham Potter would relish the additional funds to bolster his squad.
Dunk is a decent Premier League player but he will need to vastly improve his form from the 2018/19 campaign if the Leicester fans are to take to him.
The central defender wasn’t at his best last season and Rodgers will know he has to get him back to his best.
The valuation of £40 million seems an awful lot. Dunk has a solitary England cap and on last season’s form, he won’t add to it any time soon.
Maguire has been a rock for the Foxes. His career has gone an upward curve from the moment he arrived at Leicester from Hull City and he deserves his big move.
The challenge for Rodgers is to make sure that his team doesn’t miss Maguire’s presence too much.
Dunk is a similar type of defender to Maguire. It will be his job to prove to the more cynical Leicester supporters that he has what it takes to replace a man with such class.
