Leicester City reached the semi-final of the Carabao Cup following a penalty shootout win over Everton.

The Toffees had roared back from 2-0 down at the half-time interval, with Leighton Baines snatching an equaliser in injury time.

Cenk Tosun and Baines were denied by Denmark’s No.1 stopper and set up a showdown with Aston Villa for a place in the final.

The 33-year-old custodian is a bit of a legend at the King Power Stadium. Since arriving 2011 he has played 352 games, kept 113 clean sheets and collected a Premier League title along the way.

Following last night’s game, he took to Twitter to speak of his delight at reaching the last four of the competition:

Schmeichel will hope to secure a return to the Champions League this season with the Foxes.

The East Midlands-based outfit are currently second in the Premier League behind Liverpool.

Winning a trophy would be an added bonus though and Brendan Rodgers would dearly love to claim more silverware.

Following Schmeichel’s tweet, Leicester fans were quick to have their say about the goalkeeper.

Here is a selection of tweets regarding the £130,000-a-week (Spotrac) star’s performance:
