Leicester City 4-2 Manchester City: Three things we learnt

Guardiola is learning the hard way

It was an exciting appointment for Manchester City fans and one that will take their club to a new level in the coming years. However, Guardiola doesn’t look like he will achieve the instant success that he did with Barcelona and Bayern Munich. This was always likely to be a more difficult job, due to the ageing squad and the competitiveness of the Premier League. There are no easy games and Guardiola is learning that the hard way. After an incredible start, City have struggled for consistency and part of the reason for that is that the players are struggling with Guardiola’s system. They are provided with lots of information in training and some players aren’t able to carry their roles out as Guardiola would like.

That said, it would be extremely harsh to write off Guardiola at this stage. It was always going to be a longer process to get City to the same level as his Barcelona and Bayern Munich sides. He will want to strengthen in January and add more players with the tactical understanding required to thrive in his system. The Spaniard has been a success wherever he has gone and I’m sure he will be at City. He will have learned a lot from the first few months at City and it will be interesting to see what steps he makes to turn the side into title contenders.
