Leicester City 4-2 Manchester City: Three things we learnt

Jamie Vardy’s pace is still Leicester’s most dangerous weapon

The Englishman had previously gone 741 minutes without a goal and some were beginning to think that he was a one-season wonder. However, he bounced back strongly against Manchester City and netted his first ever hat-trick for Leicester City. He was always going to be Leicester’s biggest threat against a makeshift Manchester City defence and he took full advantage of the lack of understanding between the opposition defenders. All three goals came as a result of his pace, while his clinical finishing was on display for the first time this season.

Leicester haven’t been able to play as they did last season and a major reason for that has been their struggles in midfield. They haven’t been able to unleash Vardy’s pace often and he isn’t the type of striker to influence the game with his link-up play. He is an athlete and to get the best from him, he needs to be encouraged to make the dangerous runs in behind. That was the case on Saturday and he ended the game with three goals. Leicester need to take momentum from this match and focus on utilising Vardy’s pace as it is their most dangerous weapon.
