Leicester City and Newcastle United are eyeing up Benfica defender Andre Almeida with designs on a summer swoop.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, the Premier League pair are keeping tabs on the 28-year-old right back, who had an impressive campaign in Portugal.
The report says that if the Foxes were to see their player of the season Ricardo Pereira leave this summer, they want Almeida to come in and replace him.
Pereira, who earns £70,000 a week at the King Power Stadium according to Spotrac, has been a revelation since arriving last summer and would be a loss if he went.
It would be a step back for the Foxes if Leicester replaced Pereira with Almeida, and they would also apparently face competition from the north east, once their standoff with Rafa Benitez is sorted out.
The Sun reported last month that Everton and Wolves are also keen on the Portuguese defender, meaning that there could be quite the bidding war in the top flight for Almeida.
But Pereira’s pace and energy looks set to be very important for Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side next season, as he seeks to further strip away the staid style Claude Puel in favour of his preferred flowing style.
