Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has taken to Instagram to express his delight after making his England debut, describing the opportunity as unbelievable.
Phillips was named in Gareth Southgate’s starting lineup against Denmark on Tuesday. It proved to be a tough night for the Three Lions as the game ended goalless.
The Whites star certainly did not disgrace himself with his display. He made a number of challenges – in fact, no one on the pitch made more successful tackles, according to Whoscored.com.
Phillips was handed a tough hand in many respects. He was one of two naturally-defensive midfielders selected in front of a back three.
Of course, at Leeds, he is used to playing in front of two centre-backs, which gives him the ability to drop into the backline and dictate the play more often.
But there is no question that it was a promising start to Phillips’s international career. And following the game, he took to social media to suggest how proud he was to play for his country.
