Jay-Roy Grot had plenty of Leeds United fans talking over the weekend when his stunning solo goal decided Vitesse Arnhem’s Eredivisie clash with Twente on Saturday.
Grot produced a brilliant run and finish. And it may have tempted some of the Elland Road faithful to discuss whether he has a future with the Whites when he returns from his loan spell.

However, despite his moment of brilliance, it would arguably be a big surprise if he was able to make the grade with Leeds upon his return.
No player loaned out during Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure has gone on to make a competitive appearance for Leeds. Many have since left the club permanently.

And Grot was, unfortunately, not making a huge impact in the Netherlands before this past weekend. That strike was only his second at Vitesse this term.
But Leeds may have been hoping that that goal would spark a run of form that would perhaps help the Whites attract the kind of interest in the summer that would lead to a permanent sale.
Unfortunately, those hopes appear to have suffered a significant setback.
Leeds have announced on their official website that Grot has undergone surgery on an injury sustained in Saturday’s win and he could be out for up to three months.
Should he be out for the full duration, he will not return until early June. So it would appear that he will play no further part in this season.
Leeds have managed to loan Grot out twice since signing him in 2017. So it may not be too difficult to find another club interested in taking him for next season.
But his injury may surely make it much more difficult for the forward to seal a permanent exit as he will miss out on the opportunity to potentially end the season on a high.
It would arguably be incredibly harsh to be too critical of Grot’s time at Leeds. He started just one league game following his move. And he played in a campaign where few members of the squad emerged with any credit.
There have been glimpses of his ability – most notably at the weekend. But his future surely appears to lie elsewhere.
However, facilitating a permanent move may now be a much tougher task for Leeds.
