Leeds want Neco Williams: What James Milner once said about Liverpool teammate
Leeds United are one of the sides reportedly looking to capitalise, with Neco Williams apparently looking to leave Liverpool this summer.
According to Goal, Williams plans to move in search of regular first-team football. And the Reds will let him go – valuing the Wales international at £10 million.
The 20-year-old is still somewhat unproven in the Premier League. But it would be no surprise if Liverpool’s asking price was met due to the amount of interest in him.
According to Goal, six top flight rivals want the right-back. And Leeds are one of those.
It does not immediately appear that the Whites need a right-back. Luke Ayling was superb last season. And Cody Drameh looks an outstanding prospect with the under-23s.
But Williams is an international. And he can also play on either side of the defence.
But if Leeds needed any further encouragement to make a move, perhaps comments made by James Milner a year ago will excite those at Elland Road pushing for a bid for Williams to be made.
Milner was discussing some of the best talents coming through on Merseyside. And when discussing the full-back, he insisted that he has an incredibly bright future ahead.
“I don’t know what they are doing with right-backs at the academy, but Neco Williams looked incredible coming on the other day,” he said, as reported by the Daily Star.
“He is fantastic. If he can learn to play left-back, that would help some of us out as well.
“We will see if he can do that as well! He’s got that quality.”
£10m transfer for Neco Williams could be inspired for Leeds amid Milner comments
Williams’s ability to play as a left-back is crucial. Leeds clearly need a new signing in that position this summer. Doubts remain over Gjanni Alioski’s future at Elland Road.
He may have to be prepared to bide his time if he moves to Leeds. Bielsa will surely want a more natural option on the left.
However, if he is prepared to join Leeds and provide competition on the right and left, a deal could prove to be inspired in years to come.
Milner clearly thinks he could have a fantastic career ahead. For £10 million, perhaps therefore it is a no-brainer for Leeds.
