Leeds United’s potential lack of recall option for Paudie O’Connor now seems an error

Leeds United are currently in something of a defensive predicament. Marcelo Bielsa’s men have multiple injuries in the back-line. Liam Cooper joined Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling on the treatment table at the weekend, leaving Pontus Jansson and youngster Aapo Halme to hold the fort.

It has been suggested that Leeds should now be looking to bring back one of their loanees, namely Paudie O’Connor.

Many fans on Twitter are suggesting he would be a perfect option to add solidity to the back-line. With good reason as well. O’Connor, who scored against Arsenal in the EFL Cup on Halloween, played four times for Leeds at the end of last season under similar circumstances.

However, BBC West Yorkshire Sports reporter Adam Pope recently doubted whether Leeds could bring him back. He suggested there may not be a recall clause in his contract.

O’Connor and Blackpool would, therefore, need to agree to the decision which, with the Irishman, a regular in the matchday squad for the Seasiders, would seem difficult.

Instead, Leeds look likely to continue trusting the young Finn and utility midfielder Kalvin Phillips to partner the Swedish rock at the back.
