Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has threatened to quit the club in the summer, The Sun reports.
Martinez is currently out on loan at Reading and has been impressing in the Championship. But with first-team opportunities limited at Arsenal, he feels like he might have to leave.
The 26-year-old has found himself below Bernd Leno and Petr Cech this season. And even though Cech is retiring, Martinez wants first-team football.
After six different loan spells and just 14 first-team outings in nearly a decade in North London, his time at Arsenal could be set to end.
Back in January 2019, Martinez was linked with Leeds United (according to The Daily Mail). But instead, he joined Reading.
After the Argentine goalkeeper’s success with Reading, Marcelo Bielsa might consider rekindling his interest in his fellow countryman.
But goalkeeper is no longer a problem position and Martinez’s hopes of an Elland Road switch are surely over.
Leeds signed Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid in January and young Northern Ireland international Bailey Peacock-Farrell is also in contention.
Martinez has proven that he can be a solid option between the sticks. But Leeds have other areas to address rather than their goalkeeper department.
Casilla and Peacock-Farrell should have that position covered for the foreseeable future. And Martinez might need to look elsewhere for a new club.
