Leeds United would undoubtedly welcome transfer links to Felipe Caicedo now

The Ecuadorean has been in fine form for Lazio this season.

Leeds United fans are certainly used to seeing one or two names continuously doing the rounds regarding a potential transfer to Elland Road.

Josip Ilicic, Jerry Mbakogu, Matej Vydra? All names that have tumbled around the Leeds United rumour mill in the past for transfer windows at a time.

Another of those names is Felipe Caicedo, especially since Marcelo Bielsa arrived at Elland Road.

Last summer, Imperio reported that Leeds United were set for talks with the Ecuador striker.

It was claimed that these talks would progress at the ‘request’ of Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Twelve months previously, Bielsa was also said to be keen on Caicedo.  As reported by Diario La Grada, relayed and translated by Sport Witness, the Ecuador international was open to a Leeds move with LaLazioSiamoNoi suggesting a potential £8 million fee.

At one point, it was even suggested that Caicedo had been spotted outside Elland Road. In fact, it was LUTV presenter Benny Igiehon.

Throughout it all, Leeds United fans were fairly nonplussed anyway. Caicedo’s modest goalscoring record hardly had fans clamouring for the deal to come true.

However, this summer Leeds United fans would probably relish Bielsa pushing for Caicedo’s signature.

The Ecuadorean is having something of an Indian Summer this season. The 31-year-old is thriving in Lazio’s title-chasing side, doing most of the dirty work whilst Ciro Immobile gets the goals and the plaudits.

Caicedo’s form has seen him linked with a Premier League move to Everton, Newcastle United (Equagol) and West Ham United (CalcioMercato) whilst big offers from China have also been mentioned.

Leeds United fans might be hoping for the re-emergence of this rumour in the summer, but with more chance of it coming true.
