Leeds United were in scintillating form on Friday night as they swept aside a hapless West Bromwich Albion 4-0 in the Championship.

The outcome of the game was never in jeopardy from the moment Pablo Hernandez fired them into a lead after just 20 seconds.

It was perhaps unfortunate for the Baggies that it was a former player who caused them the most damage.

Tyler Roberts signed for the Whites in January 2018 for a fee of £2.5 million, according to BBC Sport.

A series of niggling injuries have blighted his progress at Elland Road, but he is now fit and firing.

On Friday he offered Baggies’ boss Darren Moore a glimpse of what the club is missing.

The 20-year-old claimed two assists on the night, linking up incredibly well with Patrick Bamford.

Roberts fell down the pecking order at The Hawthorns and with the Albion battling to stay in the Premier League they didn’t see a future for the attacker.

Choosing to offload him now looks extremely shortsighted.

Roberts has two good feet, a lethal burst of pace and an eye for a goal. Quite simply, he has just needed someone to give him a chance to play.

Given the squad at West Brom’s disposal, they should arguably be higher than the fourth place that they currently occupy.

Roberts is clearly still a work in progress. Earning a regular starting spot is certainly his immediate goal.

On Friday night’s display, however, a place in Bielsa’s starting eleven is now his to lose.

For West Brom, they are left wondering what might have been had they kept their academy graduate.
