Leeds United are being linked with a move for Cape Verde international Ze Luis. A report from Championat in Russia claims the Spartak Moscow player is the subject of a £10.5 million bid from the West Yorkshire club.
Considering that sort of money is believed to be out of the question at Leeds this month, this is certainly an odd report. However, it is an exciting one for a player who has been linked with a move to England in the past.
Newcastle United attempted to sign him on loan last January, according to the same Russian publication. They claimed the deal would have included a £17.5 million obligation to buy clause, a lot more than the £10.5 million Leeds are being linked with.
However, the same source also claimed that the deal not only fell through because of that clause. Ze Luis also did not want to leave Russia, where he had just met ‘the love of his life’ in a Russian dancer.
Whether that remains the case is a story for the Russian gossip columns but Leeds’ interest still seems to be just a rumour so far. However, Ze Luis could be the number 10 that Leeds are looking for. His record of 11 goals in 24 games this season should also not be shirked at.
If Leeds do pull off this deal it would be a marquee signing. But considering how similar reports a year ago amounted to nothing, fans at Elland Road should have their pinches of salt ready.
